SARAH YOUNG BEAR-BROWN: Hello community. I would like to invite you to the world premier of “Native Land, Native Hands”. Native Land, Native Hands is a site-specific performance examining the historic oppression of the Bay Area Deaf community and BIPOC communities through the sculptures of Douglas Tilden. 

JAC: There will be FREE performances at three Bay Area locations:

1. Saturday, April 30 at 2 PM PDT 

Where? California School for the Deaf in Fremont at the Bear Hunt sculpture.

2. Saturday, May 7:
  • 2 PM PDT
  • 4 PM PDT

Where? UC Berkeley at The Football Players statue.

3. Saturday, May 14 in San Francisco’s financial district. This performance will be a procession from the Admission Day sculpture on the corner of Market St. &  Montgomery St. to the second location- The Mechanics Monument Statue on Bush St. 
  • 4 PM PDT

SARAH YOUNG BEAR-BROWN: “Native Land, Native Hands”, written, choreographed, and directed by Black and Indigenous artist Antoine Hunter Purple Fire Crow, will feature American Sign Language Choreography, dance, narrative, original music, and Deaf and hearing dancers. The performance will explore each of Tilden’s sculptures and how they have become symbolic to the marginalization and relocation of Deaf and Indigenous people in the East Bay and San Francisco. The performance will also celebrate Deaf and BIPOC cultures and ways of resistance.
