This Year: This is the show you do not want to miss and share with everyone. This year we have many local Deaf artists, other flying in from India, Colombia, Taiwan, Jamaica, Mexico, Washington DC, Arkansas and more. There will be a diversity of Sign Languages including but not limited to Colombian Sign Language, American Sign Language, International Sign Language and Russian Sign Language.

Bay Area International Deaf Dance Festival WorkShops
Workshops: We’re excited to provide Jazz, Hip-Hop, Ballet, ASL DANCE, and more different types of dance classes taught by International, Domestic and Local Deaf, Hard of Hearing and Hearing artists who sign fluently. These workshops will be taught for both Youth and Adult participants in various locations including Richmond, Santa Cruz, Oakland, San Francisco, South Bay and other parts of the Bay Area...
Workshop location: Deaf Community Center = (DCC) 1550 San Leandro Blvd, San Leandro, CA 94577 -Aug 7th 7:00-9:30 pm ( You can Join and Leave anytime) Each class is $8 dollars or $20 for the night for 4 workshops! All proceeds go to the teaching artists to support their travel. - Workshops ONE: Afro Colombian Dance Nataly Barahona (Colombia) - Aug 7th 7:00-7:45 pm @ (DDC) Description about workshop: The Afro-Colombian dance workshop will draw a space of corporeality and expression of Afro-Colombian roots, which will allow participants to approach the stories of the ancient slave peoples, and their succession to that, the complicity of miscegenation in Colombia as a value of freedom. Participants will only need to bring comfortable clothes, sweat towel and plenty of water. - Workshop TWO: Interpreting hip hop into ASL with Matt Maxey of Deafintely Dope (Georgia) --Aug 7th-7:45-8:30pm @ (DDC) Description about workshop: You will learn the process of breaking down a hip hop song with slang into ASL and the creative process behind determining which signs fit best in clearly explaining lyrics. The participants will then take that knowledge to apply into interpreting music in general. Participants need to bring a positive attitude and a desire to learn! - Workshop THREE: Jazz Theatrical Dani Duran (LA, California) - Aug 7th 8:30-9:15 pm @ (DDC) Description about workshop: You will learn basic jazz theatrical as broadway inspired by the movie, Chicago! Participants encouraged to wear comfortable shoes and/or any comfortable jazz shoes. - Workshop FOUR: African Dance Ronnie Bradley (Washington DC) - Aug 7th 9:15-10:00 pm @ (DDC) Description about workshop: You will be learning the culture aspect of the dance. Ronnie will teach the roots of the dance from Mali, West Senegal. Bring your towel and plenty of water!

Come meet our Deaf Celebrities, Deaf locals and Deaf International dance performers. There will be a panel with all of our Deaf Artist directors. Don't miss this opportunity to see their stories, Learn about their culture, victories and and struggle, what their identities are, there will be a few Interview Question and Answer with these amazing Deaf Artists. BONUS: Deaf Artworks will be presented for sale. EXTRA Bonus: FREE FOOD! FOOD! Urban Jazz Dance is a convergence of artistic forces where RAW energy, ROOTED in FREEDOM, is expressed through the athletic BODY and UNCONTROLLABLE, PASSIONATE dance. Expect Ballet, Afro movement, plus more and even American Sign Language...the power of expression must be real. (hearing and Deaf are welcome to take classes.)
